Built-in DIY

When we got pregnant for the last time over two years ago, it became
clear Nicole and I would have to give up our home office to our older
daughter and renovate/convert the attic to a workspace. That meant
losing our closet for a proper staircase. Behind this built-in are the
stairs.

The top is a simple framed 1/4" birch panel. I used 1/2" and 3/4"
birch plywood for the entire project to keep the costs low. I spent
the majority of cash on drawer slides. These are full extension 8"
deep 24" long drawers, so I plunked down good money to make certain
there'd be minimal maintenance in the years to come. The bar pulls are
from the clearance rack at Target of all places. $2 per pkg of 2
stainless steel pulls, about 1/4 of the price one would expect to pay
for a single pull at normal retail. I won't gloat. I got lucky. Nicole
saw them.

The rest of the bedroom and the path through to the left to the walk-
in closet will be completed before the end of the summer.

I miss working in the new attic space, but these jobs take my mind off
where I'm not and put me to task on something that makes me happy.
Nothing better than feeling helpful these days. I gotta keep that in
mind.

A job like this is moderately hard. If you would like to save money,
like to work with your hands, go on Amazon and buy a few books by
Chris Gleason. He's great!

I love every detail of this old bike of mine

Simple, effective, cheap, durable. Maybe even ugly to some. (rust =
just a touch of wabe sabe)

Everybody is talking Twitter

Try harder.

Play hard, work hard. But to fit it all in, to really be excellent in
all we do, we must try harder. We must nail the schedule, learn when
it's time to learn, work when it's time to learn.

More to the point, this little boy must give up his morning nap. He's
18 months for christsakes. Give it up to my schedule, where I've
squeezed four trips into an hour and a half before lunch. ...Oh,
forget it.

This blog post is nothing. It's just a waste, but for this Truth:
Never wake a sleeping child.

Big head, big helmet.

Funny

It's time that I made him a sandbox

There comes a time in every young man's life when nothing will satisfy
except a sandbox.

This Night's festivities

Go out, get some wood.

Play is important

I had only realized in the last 6 months how little I have played in
recent years and what I've missed as a result. Go out and play today.
Ride your bike to work.

Super weird

Today my iPhone locked up, but eventually I was able to reset. Just
now I was glancing at photos I took while out today only to find this:

Buy toys

And then do your best to be younger.

In case you missed it

Spring is here.

Hand Washing: Reducing the Risk of Common Infections

Trust the Canadians, at least 10 seconds people! C'mon sing the song,
make it fun.

FYI I go for 10 seconds per hand because I like to sing in bathrooms,
especially public ones.
