Larry Page, ladies and gentlemen...

I like the way Larry speaks. He rambles in the right way, the right direction. Smiles when necessary and drops rather sly commentary into his talk. He's less Bob Hope, more Mitch Hedberg.

My first visit

Dad's first visit, originally uploaded by Gramma Kit.

Last weekend we drove out to a used book store that my mother loves - an old brick school house, it was at one time - and Maddy showed me around.

Linnea ended up borrowing the book mom bought for me. I love browsing with mom! We all had a great time.

Sonic Youth, Academy of Music, Northampton 02-14-07

Last night Nikki and I put the bear to bed, put Jon behind a beer, and snuck out for some wintry rock concert. Local newsworthy site, the Academy of Music was the fine venue. It was a sold out show (our tickets were back row, upper balcony) but probably half the seats were empty due to the weather.

It was a great show. Thurston was funny, Lee was awesome and the band rocked. Mark from Pavement joined Kim on bass for most songs and she fronted a bunch of tunes.

Yeah, we got 'em

My three year old daughter has been saying "got" in lieu of "have" a lot lately. Perhaps I never noticed it, either it was cute enough or I wasn't listening closely or analyzing speech patterns. I imagined her grown up talkin' like that, and it started to grate on nerves. It shouldn't have.

Today, we came home from the store and were talking about plurals as we took off our boots and put away the groceries. As we climbed up to the counter for a snack, she exclaimed, "I have two feet, MaDaddy and ...we got groceries from the store."

Google on Valentine's Day, reference it!

Did anybody notice today's "Google" logo? Doesn't it look like "Googe"? I did some very brief digging and found an obscure literary reference for Valentine's Day!

How to Build a Dynamic RSS Fueled Search Engine

Marjolein Hoekstra of CleverCogs explains how she put together a dynamic search engine across 150 topical sites, all powered by RSS. It's something anyone in any field of interest could do and Hoekstra shows you how.It is clever and useful. I wonder when more ready made plugin widgets will start appearing on more than just blogs. It will take a killer app to pop up all over the web...

Tea for Thee

Forest Fruit tea... Douwe Egberts is a Dutch tea trading company of olde, and they produce Pickwick's brand tea, as well as Drum tobbacco and Senseo coffee makers. I rolled a drum once, but I'm not very good at it and ended up eating most of it. "Ah, the flavor..." This tea is no doubt better tasting. My friend's mother had an empty box in her pantry. Pretty box, and complete with coupon for DE store shopping delights.

Flowers will bloom on the web

Much news has come across the web to me today, and I gotta say, I'm overwhelmed. I've had thoughts about feeds for 6 months, and great ideas coming on strong over the last oh, 5.98 months.

This shirt about sums it all up. http://www.threadless.com/product/543/This_is_not_a_Pipe

I don't have enough money to buy that shirt, not that green is really my color anyway. I hope my idea will change the way people do things, the way they communicate.

I hope Erin is doing alright as well. These are the happiest times really. Happiest of times.

Tagging the obvious

People care about things. People tag the things they care about. "Johnny Smith" on his underwear. "Joe Campbell's Lunch Box." "This book belongs to Bob Radcliffe."

People tag the things they own or would really like to own...like things on a wishlist.

Tim at Librarything.com recently noted that thingamabrarians contributed over 13 million tags on just over 10 million books. (Congratulations Librarything!) Users classified books into tight genres. Users did that all for themselves, but we get to benefit. Can't get enough Chick Lit? Get more via Librarything's Chick Lit tagged list.

This is something special.

I predict there will be something equally special appearing on the horizon very soon.

Wear Patterns...at the bar stool

Wear Patterns...at the bar stool
Originally uploaded by Jrome.
When I was studying to become an archaeologist, I was fascinated by wear patterns: the worn treads on a flight of stairs, the ruts in the stone roads through Pompeii, the smooth edges on the latrine seats in Ostia...

When I saw this I thought of those things.

Whitelisting the web

I just read a post on Plasticbag.org about OpenID. It seems overly simple once you wrap your mind around it, but is it just a stop gap measure? Perhaps people really need IP addresses doled out like social security numbers...but that's scarey...think of the fraud, the fishing, the humanity!

Maybe OpenID is more than a proper solution. Smart folks should think about this. I'm not that smart and my blogs don't get many comments. I think I've had four comments ever, from people I've never met, and two of them were spam. If comment spam was as bad as my work email, I'd probably pay a fee to make it go away...so perhaps there is an economy there after all.
